Norma Biln, MBA

Norma began her career in clinical research with Pfizer Pharmaceuticals after completing her Bachelor of Science in Physiology at McGill University. She continued her career in several capacities in sales management, marketing and market access with Pfizer Pharmaceuticals, Amgen and Abbott Laboratories where she won several regional and national level awards for top performance in each role. She later joined Stressgen Biotechnologies as Director of Corporate Market Development and Director of Sales and Marketing for Stressgen Bioreagents. Before her role of CEO at Augurex, Norma worked in a senior consulting capacity with Aspreva Pharmaceuticals on Business Development, Commercial and Communications initiatives. Norma holds a Master of Business Administration and is a member of the Board of Directors of BioTalent Canada.

Clay Braziller, MBA

Clay Braziller and Associates

Clay is a skilled facilitator, marketer and business developer whose 25 years of experience has honed a passion for commercializing innovative technologies that have positive social impacts. In 1992, he co founded Vancouver’s first technology marketing and public relations agency, selling it in 1998. In 2001, Clay co-founded Cientis Technologies to focus on Electronic Health Care, which he sold in 2004. He was also a founding director of Offsetters (carbon offsetting), the Ocean Renewable Energy Group (OREG) and the Power Technology Alliance, where he brought together over 100 corporate sector executives and multiple government departments to build a world class clean technology sector in BC. Clay is developing a Green ICT course for UBC Continuing Studies for delivery in the Winter of 2011 and co-developed then taught UBCs award winning Internet Marketing program. Clay shares his views on sustainability, technology and marketing across North America through print, radio and television.

Joshua Eades, PhD

Joshua obtained his PhD from the University of Victoria specializing in Microbiology, Protein Expression and Protein Chemistry. Following his PhD, Joshua worked as a research scientist at Mycologic Inc. and Canadian Forest Services. In 2006, Joshua joined the University Industry Liaison Office at UBC and he currently holds the position of Senior Technology Transfer Officer. Joshua’s main role is to assess the market potential of university inventions and help researchers find partners, licensees, and investors to bring inventions to the market.

Clive Glover, PhD

Manager of Product Management
STEMCELL Technologies

Clive currently heads up the Product Management team at STEMCELL Technologies where he is responsible for product line strategy and development. Prior to this, Clive launched the pluripotent stem cell biology product line at STEMCELL Techologies and lead it to its current market leadership position. Clive completed his PhD at the University of British Columbia in 2007 focusing on embryonic stem cell biology.

Larry Gontovnick, PhD

Independent Drug Development Consultant

Larry lives in Victoria, B.C. and is an independent drug development consultant to the pharmaceuticals and biotechnology industries. Larry has over 25 years of experience in drug development in biotech and big pharma. He was Vice President, Research and Development at WEX Pharmaceuticals (2008-2010), Vice President, Drug Development at Twinstrand Therapeutics (2003-2008) and Vice President, Clinical Development and Regulatory Affairs at Cipher Pharmaceuticals (2002-2003), where he was responsible for the clinical programs and regulatory filings for several novel investigational drug products. He was Senior Director, Clinical Development at GlaxoSmithKline (1992-2001), where he led a department of 150 scientific and administrative staff that represented Canada on global clinical development teams and was responsible for the conduct of international and local clinical trials in Canada. He also served as Head, Clinical Investigation at CIBA-Geigy Canada (1985-1992), where he was a member of the international development team for formoterol, a long-acting inhaled β2-agonist.

Malcolm Kendall, MBA

Malcolm is a co-founder and the Chief Executive Officer and Director of Indel Therapeutics Inc., a biotech company focused on developing new therapies for hospital-acquired and difficult-to-treat infections. Mr. Kendall brings two decades of experience in company creation and building to Indel. He has a track record of success as a senior executive, investor and board member. Formerly a life science venture capitalist with MDS Capital and Intersouth Partners, he also lectures at the Segal Graduate School of business, Simon Fraser University.


Konrad Sechley, PhD

Konrad is a principal patent agent in Gowlings' Vancouver office and a vice chair of Gowlings' Life Science Industry Group. He is the past national leader of the Patent Prosecution Group. His practice focuses on patent protection in the biotechnological, agricultural, pharmaceutical chemical, cleantech, biofuel and bioenery sectors in Canada, U.S. and abroad. He works with a full range of clients including government, university and hospital research labs, startup and mid-sized biotech, cleantech, pharmaceutical and multinational corporations.
