Career Connect Series

Spring 2011

The Career Connect Series will provide students with an exclusive opportunity to observe the inner workings of a local biotech or life sciences company. This represents a great opportunity for students to explore job opportunities beyond the lab bench, yet remaining within the industry. Given the tremendous success of Career Connect over the past two years, we are expanding this event into a series, allowing students to select from four or five different companies.

Career Connect Series 2011

May 12th 2011 - Government: Health Canada
June 3rd 2011 - Biotechnology: Centre for Drug Research and Development
June 7th 2011 - Accounting: KPMG
June 8th 2011 - Technology Transfer: SFU Innovation Office

Previous Career Connects

Career Connect 2009: STEMCELL Technologies
Career Connect 2010: Cardiome Pharma Corp.

What People Say

"Thank you very much for putting together the career connect. I think this is one of the few events where we actually get to visit a real company and hear from real corporate guys. The idea of people talking about their career paths was very good and must be kept up"

Harish Vasudevan, Career Connect Cardiome 2010

"I really enjoyed the career connect event and thought it was well organized and insightful. I liked how the morning began with an overview of the company and after lunch the focus shifted to specific departments so one could choose what best to attend for their purposes. It was great that so many employees were available for questions during lunch and the breaks. They really went out of their way to talk to us and provide their insight. Overall there were great talks and good opportunities to network. It was a very enjoyable day."

Wendy Boivin, Career Connect Cardiome 2010

"I thought this event was excellent due to learning what sort of credentials do the employers have in Cardiome. I thought it was well structured and we were able to choose what areas we were more interested in. All the presenters were excellent at presenting. The food was really good and the breaks were well timed. Everything was on the whole great!"

Dania Saeed, Career Connect Cardiome 2010

"That was perhaps one of the most professionally valuable events packed into the span of a day. I can't even begin to explain who inspiring it was, and I think most of the students and young professionals at the event will have lots kudos for Cardiome. It's rare to find such an energetic, friendly corporate mentor like that, and they really deserve our tremendous accolades."

Adam Ludlow, Career Connect Cardiome 2010

"Through the SBN's Career Connect hosted by STEMCELL, I was able to meet company's key personnel and become familiar with STEMCELL's background, area of research, and products. It was through this event that I was able to establish a strong network with STEMCELL's employees and applied for my current position at STEMCELL. I really found this event beneficial to my knowledge and helpful in establishing my career goals.”

Fatemeh(Sarah) Nahid, Career Connect STEMCELL 2009

“SBN’s inaugural Career Connect at STEMCELL was such an amazing, eye-opening affair. Afterwards, I joined the SBN executive team with the specific purpose of planning another one of these events, so that others could also benefit from the experience.”

Andrew Tait, Career Connect STEMCELL 2009
