Critical Skills For Success: expand your toolbox

In response to an overwhelming demand from our membership, and based on the success of last year’s networking workshop, SBN is launching a four part workshop series that will allow a select group of students to enhance their soft skills. Topics covered will include business etiquette, networking, presentations and public speaking, and technical writing skills. Upon successful completion of all four units, participants will receive a certificate and a special opportunity to network with SBN mentors. If you are only looking to brush up on a particular aspect of your soft skills toolbox, each workshop can be registered individually.

Agenda & Speakers

Oct 20 | Technical Writing | Duncan Kent, Fellow - Society for Technical Communication and Lecturer at UBC Sauder School of Business

Oct 27 | Public Speaking and Presentation Skills | Dene Rossouw, Certified Executive Coach and 2010 President of the Canadian Association of Professional Speakers (CAPS) Vancouver chapter.

Nov 10 | Business Etiquette | Margaret Page, Founder & Director of Etiquette Page

Nov 17 | Networking Tips| Sandy Huang, President and Principal Consultant of Pinpoint Tactics Business Consulting

Speaker biographies can be found here.

Time & Location

All sessions will take place from 6pm -8pm in the Genome BC Multi-Function Room at 555 W. 8th Ave., Vancouver

What to Expect

  • Gain knowledge of soft skills that will be critical throughout your career from subject matter experts.
  • Interactive, hands-on approach to learning: you won't be glued to a desk, but actively applying the skills learned with fellow attendees and the workshop facilitators!
  • Limited workshop size ensures higher skills retention through small group simulations and personal interaction and feedback with the experts.
  • For those completing the entire series, a certificate of achievement will be awarded.
  • Those completing the entire series will also have a chance to engage and network with industry leaders at a special closing event.

On Thursday Nov 18th SBN will be hosting an intimate networking gathering for those students who have completed the entire 4-part Critical Skills for Success series. They will have the unique opportunity to practice the skills they have gained by networking with local industry mentors.
